Big Muddy health care residents receive funding

The Big Muddy Mutual Aid organization donated $1,000 to the activity departments in the Grasslands Health Centre in Rockglen and the Coronach Health Centre. Richard Prefontaine, chair of the Big Muddy Mutual Aid, presented cheques to Pauline Scott from the Coronach facility and to Carmel Clysdale from the Grasslands facility in October.
The donation will be used for activities and “the little extras to help the residents pass their time,” said Prefontaine. The Big Muddy Mutual Aid organization is made up of members from surrounding rural municipalities, including RM 10, RM 11, RM 12 and RM 42, as well as the towns of Rockglen, Willow Bunch and Coronach.
The Grasslands Health Centre is a facility in Rockglen within the Five Hills Health Care Region. It offers long-term care with 17 beds. It has visiting Nurse Practitioner services and lab services. Because families play an important role in a patient’s health and safety, the Health Region has an Open Presence policy and does not set specific visiting hours.
The Coronach Health Centre joined the Sun Country Health Region in 2002. It is a new health facility, built in 1992, and consists of 12 long-term care beds and three multi-purpose beds and a laboratory. These beds are used for on-going services such as respite care, palliative care, rehabilitation, convalescence, observation, assessment, and out-patient procedures. There is a 24-hour emergency ambulance as well as a visiting doctor each Wednesday for clinic and long-term care. Home Care services, Meals-On-Wheels and Public Health services are also available through the facility.
