Boil water advisory in effect once again

A Precautionary Water Advisory (PDWA) is in effect for anyone who uses water from the City of Weyburn Water Treatment Plant.

A Precautionary Water Advisory (PDWA) is in effect for anyone who uses water from the City of Weyburn Water Treatment Plant. This includes the City of Weyburn, the Weyburn Utility Board, the Hamlet of North Weyburn, the Village of McTaggart and Nickle Lake Regional Park.

The PDWA was re-issued on February 25 after low levels of cryptosporidium and giardia, which are pathogenic microorganisms, were detected in the City of Weyburn drinking water system.

All users of the City of Weyburn drinking water are advised to boil all water used for consumption purposes for at least one minute prior to use. Boil all water to be used for other activities where it may be ingested, including brushing teeth or soaking false teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, food or drink which will not be subsequently heated and ice cubes.

Do not use water for washing dishes unless it has been boiled. Do not drink from any public drinking fountains supplied with water from the public supply. Ensure that younger children and infants are sponge bathed.

If you do not wish to boil the water, use an alternative water source known to be safe.

Anyone with severe cuts or rashes should consult a physician before using the water.

The Advisory will not be lifted until the water supply is determined to be completely safe.
