July 1 will mark Canada's 145th birthday. To mark this great day, which celebrates our diverse cultures and great love of our nation there will be multiple events held around the area. Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford, Jennifer Welsh, said, "Canada Day, like the country, is endlessly decentralized. There doesn't seem to be a central recipe for how to celebrate it- chalk it up to the nature of the federation." For many Canadians, however, a good barbeque and spending quality time outside are quintessential for celebrations. This is exactly what the plan is for many in the area.
Kisbey Fire Services are holding a fundraiser for upgrading their outdated equipment. A family fun afternoon is planned at the Kisbey Recreation Centre between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. It will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. They will have hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch. Offering face painting and fun for children this afternoon will be a fun way to celebrate Canada Day. The old fire truck will also be on display for people to interact with. This is a great way to learn more about becoming a volunteer and to simply have a fun filled afternoon.
Centennial Park in Carlyle will be the recipient of a gazebo. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at one in the afternoon. To celebrate this, the Ramsey family and extended family, are hoping to have cake and ice cream for those that attend the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Bear Claw Casino and Hotel will be holding a free barbeque from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., while supplies last. Later they will also be lighting off fireworks for the crowd to enjoy at White Bear Lake Resort. During the Pow Wow that evening time will be set aside for the fireworks. The Casino is also encouraging people to come out and swipe their Player's Choice cards as the first 500 people will receive a $10 coin coupon redeemable at the cage.
Also happening in the Kenosee area will be the annual opening of the Red Market Barn. It can be found five kilometres north of Kenosee on highway 9. They will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. featuring music provided by K.O. & Friends for the day.
