Cancer Jam celebrates 22 years

The 22nd annual Country Music Jamboree raised over $50,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) on June 26 and 27 at Nickle Lake Regional Park.

The two-day musical event saw performances by headliners Julian Austin, Amanda Wilkinson, Mark Lorenz and Rory Allen. Local bands Switch, the Cowtones, the Yahoos and Air Ticket performed, as well as Tenille Arts, Karrissa Hoffart and Sandy Wright. Lexie Tytlandsvik of Oungre, Happy Wanderers & Friends of Arcola/Carlyle and Old Dogs and Garnet & the Classics of Estevan also performed.

A car show, mini golf and children's games helped make the weekend a family-focused event.

This may be the last year for the Cancer Jam, as the CCS has decided it will no longer make the $20,000 investment necessary to put on the two-day musical event.

Organizer Les Hill said that he thinks the Jamboree would be successful no matter who put it on and hopes that it will continue in the future through private, organizational or corporate sponsorship.

"I would be very sorry to see it go after 22 years," said Hill.

Funds raised at the Jamboree will go to the Southeast Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society.
