Cancer rehabilitation seminar set for February 23

The Sharing the Journey Cancer Support Group will be hosting a free seminar on February 23 at the Weyburn Public Library (lower level) at 1:30 p.m.

The Sharing the Journey Cancer Support Group will be hosting a free seminar on February 23 at the Weyburn Public Library (lower level) at 1:30 p.m.

Aimed at health care professionals, breast cancer survivors, sports trainers and counsellors, the group will present one of the recipients of the 2012 Women of Distinction Award for her work with Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, Tracy Gardikiotis, BCcPT, CLT, CCES. Tracy is a Physical Therapist, Certified Lymphadema Therapist and Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist.

Tracy will provide a general overview of 'Breast Cancer Rehabilitation' followed by an opportunity for questions and answers. Topics will include Lymphadema, cording, side effects of radiation, side effects of chemo, chemo fatigue and chemo fog, psychological and social issues, exercise and training guidelines and how they pertain to 'strength straining', 'yoga', 'stretching', etc.

Tracy is volunteering her time so registration is free. She has also offered to return to provide in-depth workshops for those wishing to develop programs that could assist in Breast Cancer Rehabilitation and help improve the quality and lives of breast cancer survivors in Weyburn and area.
