Carlyle Cardinals take Harbourne Memorial Tournament by storm

The Carlyle Cardinals are once again the winners of the Harbourne Memorial Tournament. The tournament, held July 29 to 31, saw eight Saskota league teams play off in hopes of becoming this year's league champion.

The weekend started off with Friday night playoffs taking place in Carlyle, Carnduff, Estevan and Lampman. Teams earned their home playoff game in accordance to season standings with the top four finishers obtaining home field advantage.

The tournament moved to Kenosee Lake on Saturday where the remainder of the games took place. While rain delayed game times on Saturday, organizers were rather lucky with what turned out to be two excellent days to play ball.

Spectators filled the stands and lined the fences. Spectacular ball playing provided the spectators with entertainment as outfielders dove to catch fly balls and batters attempted to hit fastballs out of the park.

Sunday meant the start of semi-finals with top teams playing off throughout the morning and afternoon. Semi-finals saw the Carlyle Cardinals face off against the Carnduff Astros. The Cardinals overcame the Astros with a score of 2-0 to advance to the finals. The second semi-final saw the Kenosee Cubs square off against the Estevan Tower Wolves. The result, the Kenosee Cubs advancing with a final game score of 3-1.

The Harboune Memorial Tournament final saw a match-up between the Kenosee Cubs and the Carlyle Cardinals start at 4 p.m. Playing all six innings, the undefeated Cardinals showed their skill as they proceeded to beat the Cubs with a score of 9-3, making the reigning champions, winners once again.
