Chief Steve Debienne of the Weyburn Fire Department is reminding residents about fire pit safety in the city.

On May 6, the Fire Department received a call regarding a possible fire pit violation. Upon arrival, crews found that many of the rules regulating the use of a fire pit where being violated. The fire pit permit was revoked.

"This serves as a reminder that with summer approaching, many residences enjoy having a backyard cooking fire," said Debienne. "I would like to remind all citizens to ensure they have a valid permit and that all the conditions are being met."

With the numerous amounts of complaints received last year, the Fire Department will be ensuring that conditions are met this summer, according to Debienne.

If a permit is revoked, the property will be unable to have another permit for five years.
