Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of June 18 to 24:
During the reporting period, police received 133 calls for service. Police gave a number of tours of the Police building for both pre-school and school age children. Police also responded to eight noisy party complaints this week, one of which resulted in a 25 year old male being charged with a noise bylaw offence.
On June 20 and 21, Weyburn Police participated in an SGI-coordinated province-wide traffic blitz. This blitz focused on raising awareness and increasing public safety on the roads, particularly with regard to cell phone usage and seat belts. Local police checked more than 75 vehicles, writing two cell phone tickets and four seatbelt tickets. In addition, there were four speeding tickets issued and one individual charged with driving while disqualified.
*On June 24, police were called to a report of a vehicle fire on a grid road just south of the city. The vehicle, which was later reported stolen, was found burning but unoccupied. The vehicle was destroyed. The matter is under joint investigation by Weyburn Police Service and the RCMP.
*Police were called to a south residence to investigate a possible fight in progress. The investigation determined the roommates of the residence were having a heated disagreement. The incident was mediated and one of the roommates left the residence for the evening. No charges were laid.
*Police received a complaint of mischief. A vehicle owner had gotten into an argument with another male and it is alleged that the vehicle was kicked during the incident, damaging the vehicle. The matter remains under investigation.
*On June 23, police were called to a downtown bar to a fight in progress. As a result of the investigation, no charges were laid but a Weyburn male was arrested for being drunk in public and lodged in cells to sober.
*Police received a complaint of a theft of a 50" Samsung TV from a local residence. The matter remains under investigation.
*On June 22, police assisted the Weyburn Fire Department with a possible fire in an apartment in the downtown area of the city. Although there was some smoke, it was determined that the owner of the apartment had left a pot on the stove. There was no damage or injuries.
*On June 21, police received a mischief complaint from a resident in the central part of the city about her vehicle being vandalized. The vehicle's gas tank was tampered with and parts of it were damaged. The matter remains under investigation.
*As a result of a complaint received by police, a 13-year-old young person was arrested and charged for possessing a small amount of marijuana. He will be appearing in court in September.
*Officers attended a local bar to investigate a reported assault. The investigation determined that an altercation had occurred between two individuals and a 24-year-old male was struck with a pool cue and suffered minor injuries. As a result, a 23-year-old male from Bienfait was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and criminal mischief. He will be appearing in court in June.
*On June 20, police were called to a local bar to investigate a reported motor vehicle accident. The investigation determined the suspect vehicle had hit another parked vehicle as well as a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 25 year old male, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. A 24 year old male from Weyburn was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle while over .08 and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. The male will be making his first court appearance in July.
*On June 19, police received a complaint of a hit and run to a motor vehicle. The vehicle had been parked at a local grocery store parking lot. The vehicle was damaged on the driver's side and the offending vehicle had left the scene.
*Police were called to a local hotel regarding a disturbance involving five to six individuals. The matter was resolved without further incident.
*Police received a complaint regarding a vehicle that had been damaged while parked in the northeast area of the city. The rear window of the vehicle had been broken and the investigation is ongoing.
*On June 18, police received a complaint regarding an act of mischief being done to the patio doors of an apartment building in the northwest area of the city. A large rock was thrown through the glass portion of the doors. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
*A complaint was received from a female resident of the city that she was receiving threatening texts from an ex-boyfriend. The investigation into this matter continues with the assistance of the Bengough RCMP.
*Police were called to a local department store on the west side of the city to investigate a theft complaint where a drill and some beverages were taken. The male suspect left the area in a vehicle described as an early 2000s white Ford truck. The matter remains under investigation.
