Community Initiatives Fund gives to two programs in Carlyle

The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) has awarded nearly $3.33 million in grants to communities across Saskatchewan.

The Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) has awarded nearly $3.33 million in grants to communities across Saskatchewan. The investment in a number of projects across the province are intended to "enhance the capacity for development, inclusion, leadership and vitality in all Saskatchewan communities," a press release states.

"Through the CIF, Government is investing in Saskatchewan communities and in the projects that the communities themselves identify as important," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said. "As Saskatchewan's population continues to grow, and more people are employed than ever before in our growing economy, the province is finding a new vibrancy. With CIF support, communities are taking action to improve the health and lives of Saskatchewan residents."

The grants were developed in order to create opportunities, foster leadership, increase physical activity, and promote inclusion of groups who are often excluded. The program is partially funded by profits acquired by the Regina and Moose Jaw casinos as the Government of Saskatchewan explains on their website.

"Saskatchewan community needs are always at the core of our (CIF) programming," says Tracey Mann, executive director of the CIF. "By fine-tuning our programs we can now respond even more directly to current needs and contribute to great projects that benefit Saskatchewan residents and support the hard work and dedication of community nonprofits and volunteer agencies."

Receiving grants includes two local causes. The Carlyle and District Leisure Complex has received $15,000 in support of the zero entry expansion of the pool. The other project, which was given funding, was the Weyburn Early Childhood Development Network for the development of a childcare centre in Carlyle.

Both are causes which will help youth and the community as a whole.
