(L-R) George Siourounis, part owner of Weyburn Travelodge, and project manager for Design, Planning Coordination Services William Breti discussed the ongoing renovations and construction at the site of the hotel, recently.

The Weyburn Travelodge is currently undergoing a transformation that will "change the face of Weyburn."

The oldest part of the hotel has already come down and 26 new rooms are being constructed, bringing the number of hotel rooms from 60 to 86. The construction will also add three meeting rooms and a new restaurant.

The new building will be four stories high with all guest services on the main floor, including the new restaurant, kitchen, front desk, laundry, hot tub and exercise room. The remaining floors will be dedicated to guest rooms.

The old banquet room will also be demolished and a new one built in its place.

George Siourounis, part owner of Weyburn Travelodge and El Rancho Restaurant, said that so far the work is ahead of schedule and they hope to open the new building by January 2012.

"This project is going to change the town," said Siourounis. "This building has been here for 60 years so it's going to look really different."

Siourounis said the El Rancho Restaurant will remain open until the new restaurant is ready. The restaurant reopened on July 14 after closing on June 19 because of sewer backup due to the recent flood.

The old restaurant site will then become parking and "a lot of landscaping," according to Siourounis.

"Weyburn will be proud of this new building, that's what we hope."
