The audience was treated to a delightful dinner in the Memorial Hall dining area this past Friday evening. The tables were beautifully decorated with spring flowerpots on each table, as well as interesting candle and marble centerpieces.
The guests enjoyed glasses of wine, beer and other drinks, with soft drinks available for anyone who wished to not have alcohol.
Many new friends were made, as the seat assignment offered a variety of personalities joining together for hearty conversation and a lovely catered meal, coordinated by David and Shelly Slykhuis.
The meal was served buffet style and included a variety of salads, buns, beef and a delicious strawberry shortcake desert bowl.
After eating, the audience was asked to make their way upstairs for the big event.
The sold out crowd filled the auditorium and were treated to a comedic evening.
This year's theatre production was Unnecessary Farce, the story of two wacky detectives, investigating the town's mayor through adjoining hotels room, a comedy written by Paul Slade Smith. It was directed by Dianne Twietmeyer and assistant to the director Don Carter.
The plot began, with the two unorganized and witty detectives setting up a security system between the two hotel rooms, neither sure of how to work the device.
The two never seemed to get the important stuff on tape but often caught private moments.
The sexual encounters between Karen Brown, the accountant and Detective Eric Sheridan, were always viewed by at least one other person, including the unlucky mayor, who happened to walk into every awkward moment possible.
Comedic encounters were happening every second during this play, and the audience laughed until they cried.
"I hope all the ladies wear waterproof mascara," said Marylin Carter, wife of the event coordinator.
The story ended in amazing surprise, with the two crazy inexperienced detectives capturing and arresting the whole Scottish Clan.
The cast was outstanding, with experience ranging from one year to 25 years of acting experience.
Unnecessary Farce was definitely the opposite of its title, delivering very appreciated and needed comic relief.
The production also had a sold out Saturday night dinner theatre and Sunday afternoon matinee.
Cornerstone Theatre is now in search of new talent for their next production.
"We are looking for new performers. We need people who want to start acting, or even people who are musically talented. Our casts are getting older, and we will soon be in need of younger talent," said Don Carter, event coordinator and assistant to the director.
