Carlyle theatre goers may have noticed the lack of theatre in the months leading up to the Dickens Village Festival. Don Carter, theatre event coordinator was noticing as well and looking for a solution. He and President Shannon Klatt got together and after a few months of discussion think the have found another innovative way to get the town to fall in love with the art.The new production will happen Oct. 19 and Oct.20 at Memorial Hall in Carlyle. The show, entitled "And now for something completely different", is an arrangement of several one act pieces. Each act is revolving around some sort of dating situation and a few musical numbers are also in the works. The group expects the production to be no longer than two hours.Cornerstone Theatre group held a barbeque recently to discuss the October addition, where scripts were read and some parts assigned. They are actively looking for new faces to join the group on stage and urge interested parties to contact them immediately. "If anyone wants to step in, now would be a good time. The short plays are no longer than two or three pages long and about five minutes long on stage. So now is a good time, Dickens Festival could work as well," explained Carter. "We have a huge number of younger people in our community and we would love to get you involved onstage. Contact me and I can give you a script to see if you are interested. We will team you up with someone to practice and after parts are learned, we will make sure one of our able directors watches and makes recommendations."The new event will be replacing this year's Cornerstone Trivia Night, to raise money for a new dance floor at the hall. It is in pretty rough condition and the theatre is known for pulling in a good crowd when raising money for a cause."At this point that floor is really bumpy, and it could really use some work," said Klatt. This production will also be a good chance for you to get your hands on first- come first served Dickens tickets. They will go on sale during "And now for something completely different" and won't be available for general purchase until the Monday after that event. Everyone knows how fast these tickets go each year, so a two-day head start could really help with scoring great seats closer to the action.Tickets will go on sale for the new project on Sept. 20 at Cornerstone Shoes and cost $10 a head. Details are still being discussed but the event will most likely include buffet style pot luck.
