It's official - Crocus 80 will be revitalized. A show of support for the theatre group gathered at the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre on Thursday night. An official annual general meeting, election of the board of directors, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

That same evening there will be an open audition call at 7:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, as Crocus 80 is dedicated to being an equal-opportunity community theatre group.

The meeting place for the annual general meeting will be confirmed at a later date. Crocus 80 was created in 1980, and is a long-standing member of Theatre Saskatchewan.

During the meeting it was confirmed that the seniority with Theatre Saskatchewan can be maintained, which allows members of Crocus 80 the many benefits of memberships.

Membership with Theatre Saskatchewan includes attending and hosting workshops, entering one-act festival and the three-act Theatre Fest. Theatre Saskatchewan also has a huge library and resources that can be accessed, including online catalogues of plays.

The mandate of Crocus 80 is to provide an outlet for adult theatre for the City of Weyburn. Once the board of directors is elected, it will be incorporated as a non-profit organization. The theatre group has been inactive since the 2007-08 year.

Already plans are in motion to perform dinner theatres in late November, and interested organizations or businesses who are looking for entertainment for their Christmas parties are encouraged to attend the annual general meeting.

All interested residents who want to join Crocus 80, become a volunteer, help stage theatre presentations, or want to act on stage can attend the annual general meeting.
