As this year's spring production from Cornerstone Theatre approaches, the two dinner theatre performances, Friday and Saturday have already sold out. People will be attending from near and far. Cornerstones productions never fail to amaze.

Cornerstone Theatre Inc. is based in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, Canada, drawing both cast and audience from areas in and around Carlyle, Oxbow, Kennedy, Estevan, Manor, Arcola and others. The troupe traditionally puts on two major productions each year in Carlyle.

As actors and actresses are deep into rehearsal for this year's first presentation, the anticipation builds.

"We have actors and actresses, but what we have that is really different are our voices," said Don Carter, a member of the theatre group. "Oh, the singers are absolutely amazing!"

Unnecessary Farce, deals with a corrupt mayor and the two detectives trying to catch him in the act. The whole production takes place in two adjoining hotel rooms.

The play was writing by Paul Slade Smith, made its stage debut on Oct. 6, 2006, and has been put on by several different acting groups and continues to sell out worldwide.

It has received nothing but raving reviews. The Dallas Morning News stated that it was "Madcap theatrical madness! Unnecessary Farce is hardly unnecessary. It is pure outrageous silliness."

Cornerstone will begin presenting their version April 20, with a sold out beef dinner theatre beginning at 7 p.m. and the performers taking stage at 8 p.m. Saturday's performance is of the same structure.

"The theatre holds a lot of people, but we like to keep it to a personal experience," Carter said. "We only sell 150 tickets for each performance, and only use the theatres main level seats."

"I would recommend strongly that if you plan to attend that you buy in advance," said Carter. "It is possible that we could sell out on Sunday in advance and then people will be disappointed and turned away."

Sunday matinee show will kick off at 2 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at Cornerstone Shoes in Carlyle for $15.

All shows will be held at Memorial Hall, on Main Street in Carlyle.
