Students in grades one to six got on stage and performed for a full house at this year's Christmas concert, held in the gymnasium of the Arcola School on Tuesday, Dec. 20. The students gave their performances twice that day, one showing beginning at 1 p.m., and a second performance being held at seven that evening. The community band helped make the show a success with their musical talents.

The pre-kindergarten class sang "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," which was organized and directed by Karla Beatty and Billie Rolufs.

The kindergarten class recited a poem, "Waiting for Christmas," which was organized and directed by Lynette Peet.

The grade one class read out an acrostic of Christmas, in which they denoted a word to each letter in Christmas, as well they sang "Must Be Santa." Karyse Norbert organized and directed the grade ones, with help from Gail Milne.

Cindy Ellis organized and directed the grade two and three performance, "Santa and Me."

The grade four students recited a poem, "My Christmas Stocking," with the help of Judy Naylen. For the poem, the grade fours created some unique and fun Christmas stockings! The class also recited a second poem, "Christmas Lights."

Colleen Hengen and Karla Beatty directed a play, which was put on by the grade five students. The class enacted "A Charlie Brown Christmas" in which Charlie Brown had to find his Christmas spirit.

Students of grade six presented a little skit called "How to Pick a Christmas Play," which was directed by Val Lees and Billie Rolufs. Their play was about a class that had to come up with an idea for a Christmas show, ideas were discussed but no one could agree on anything! Eventually, time ran out and the students hadn't come up with an idea, so they wished the audience a Merry Christmas and ran off stage.

The gymnasium of the Arcola School was packed as parents, friends, and community members filled the room to watch all the kids happily perform. Both of the Arcola Christmas Concert performances, the 1 p.m. show and the 7 p.m. show were quite successful. The Christmas concert was a great way for students to get into Christmas spirit, and bring the first half of the school year to a close!
