The Estevan Family Resource Centre is pleased with the renovations that have taken place to its facility in the 1300-block of Seventh Street.

The family centre held a grand reopening Oct. 26, with a crowd showing up to see all of the renovations that have been completed. Misty Pennington, who is the chairperson of the family centre’s board, said they attracted people who usually can’t visit the facility during the weekday because people are at work.

“People came and went all morning,” said Pennington.

All of the flooring has been redone and the walls have been painted. A donor tree was painted on the south wall of the play area, and it will eventually have the names of those people who have made significant contributions to the centre.

Cupboards have been installed and they have made changes to some of the toys.

“It was the first time it has been renovated since we moved into the building 17 years ago,” Pennington said.

A counter has been removed in the front play area, creating a more open area for play.

Support from Kingston Midstream allowed the renovations to be completed.

The renovation was badly needed, Pennington said, after 17 years of hundreds of children running around and playing.

Pennington said people are very happy with the renovations, especially the new floor. The carpet was replaced with vinyl, which creates a better surface for play.

The family centre is open for free play from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday.
