Fillmore mayor, councillor resign, byelection planned

Fillmore (cpd) - Due to the resignation of Village Mayor, Marvin Chambers, and councillor, Bill Wall, there will be a byelection in July to elect a new councillor, with three candidates vying for the position.



Fillmore (cpd) - Due to the resignation of Village Mayor, Marvin Chambers, and councillor, Bill Wall, there will be a byelection in July to elect a new councillor, with three candidates vying for the position. Lorne Johnston, Ron Collins and Jason Smith have all thrown their hat in the ring. Councillor Dean Hanson was elected mayor by acclamation and another byelection will be held to fill the spot he vacated on council.

Graduation ceremonies were held for 33 Central School on June 27, beginning with a banquet at Creelman. There were only four graduates this year: Mikayla Bamford, Jared Daradich, Brittany Elias and Jordan Macdonald. The emcee for the banquet was Carolyn Griffin. The Toast to the Grads was given by Michelle Megenbir and replied to by Jordan Macdonald. The Toast to the Parents was given by Mikayla Bamford and replied to by Miles Mostowchuk. The Toast to the Teachers was given by Jared Daradich and replied to by Andrew Sharpe.

The group reconvened at 33 Central School for the exercises with Mistress of Ceremonies Kylee Glover. Jay Boll sang "O Canada", followed by the introduction of the grads and their escorts by Glover and presentation of scrolls by superintendent Kelly Hilkewich. The valedictorian address was given by Jared Daradich and Brittany Elias, followed by the presentation of awards. Glover presented the valedictorian awards to Daradich and Elias. Kelly Hilkewich presented the Governor General's award to 2012 graduate, Megan Hall and Glover presented her with the Horner Scholarship. Lori Fahlman presented the Fillmore and District Lion's Scholarship to McDonald and Don Driver presented him with the Masonic Lodge award. Daradich received the Rural Municipality of Fillmore scholarship, presented by Verna Wiggins, the Weyburn Inland Terminal Ltd. Bursary, presented by Glover, the Legion Scholarship, presented by Don Wiberg, the 33 Central School Representative Council Scholarship, presented by Teresa Francouer, the Science Fair Heritage Award, presented by Andrew Sharpe and the Access Communications Centennial Scholarship, presented by Glover.

Glover read a letter from the Minister of Education, Russ Marchuk.

Charlotte Roettger was the guest speaker, with lots of good advice for their future. She was followed by the grad media presentation by Mikayla Bamford. Due to their small number, the grads did not have a Grand March, but a single dance at the end of the ceremonies.

Ken and Shirley Fowler has a busy week. They attended the Grade 8 farewell for granddaughter, Amy Fowler, from Ruth M. Buck School in Regina on June 24.

Then, it was on to Saskatoon to attend granddaughter, Samantha Fowler's Grade 8 Farewell from Mother Theresa School on June 25 and back to Regina for granddaughter, Rachel Fowler's, Grade 12 graduation from Winston Knoll Collegiate in June 26.

Dale and Sheaunid Wiggins attended the Grade 12 graduation exercise of their granddaughter. Alyssa Wiggins, in Regina on June 25. Also attending were uncles Warren and Verna Wiggins, Jody Wiggins and Todd Wiggins and cousin, Randi Maurer. Alyssa was part of the Thom Collegiate graduating class.
