Fillmore Remembrance Day service well attended

Fillmore (cpd) - The Remembrance Day Service was held in Fillmore this year. Sergeant-at-arms, Ken White, directed the Colour Party lead by four RCMP members who bore the flags, they were: Nathan Hofmeister, Jaime Morris, 2nd Lieut.


Fillmore (cpd) - The Remembrance Day Service was held in Fillmore this year. Sergeant-at-arms, Ken White, directed the Colour Party lead by four RCMP members who bore the flags, they were: Nathan Hofmeister, Jaime Morris, 2nd Lieut. Steven Morris, Winnipeg, and Don Wiberg. Two sentries, Murray Allan and Nolan Wallace, stood guard. Chaplain, Ann White, directed the service. Following the singing of O Canada, Logan Fahlman read her prize-winning poem, "Combat Boots."

The Fillmore-Creelman choir were accompanied on the piano by Jen Kosior. John Horner read the honour roll and and Jay Boll recited "In Flanders Fields." Sergent-at-arms, Ken White, was assisted by Petty Officer First Class John Wilkenson, HMCS, for the laying of the wreaths.
Susan Morris-Ross laid a wreath on behalf of the Silver Cross Mothers; Constable Ryan Cooney laid, for the Federal Government; Constable Adam Kabatoff, for the provincial government; Gerald Nixon, RM of Fillmore; Wayne Bossenberry, RM of Griffin; Creelman mayor Pat Hume, for the Village of Creelman; Verla Hovind, for Fillmore; Walter Nixon, for the Legion Branch #299; Master warrant officer Tony Collins, CD, 15 Wing, Moose Jaw, for all veterans; Shannon Leas, for Ross Wightman; Leila Hofmeister, for the Hofmeister family; Iris Cappel, in memory of Iris Davis; Lou Ann Carnegie, for Doreen and Willie Carnegie; Allan Carnegie, for Dick Blackburn.

The Legion members, followed by the choir, and then the audience all laid their poppies. Following the Royal Anthem and march-off of colours, lunch was served.

Longtime Fillmore resident, Ken Ogden, passed away on Nov. 12 at the age of 92.

Fillmore RM administrator, Vernna Wiggins, and RM of Reeve administrator, Gerald Nixon, attended the mid-term SARM convention in Saskatoon.

Blake and Jen Anderson had a baby boy, Kasen William, on Nov. 12. Kasen weighed eight pounds. He is the little brother of Ella and Brennan.

Eldon and Audrey Piper and Lloyd Hall attended the funeral for the late Don Evans, who died in a car accident at Bethune on Nov. 6. He was the twin brother of former Fillmoreite Dorothy Nicholson, who now lives in Brooks, Alta.

Yvette Stewart and Don Lubiens were the lucky winners of a 2014 Micra SV Convenience in the recent Rider Touchdown Lottery. Bill and Del Hancock and Debbie Bank were small prize winners.
