Starting a new business can be a hit and miss but for Karen Smith, her idea was far from off target.

She started Divine Body Contouring last November, a business where she would offer body contouring treatment from her home using state of the art machines. This included procedures to tighten the skin and stretch marks, reduce cellulite as well as performing facial treatments. From oxygenizing the skin to infusing hyaluronic acid and retinol into skin cells, Smith is now offering a service in Carlyle that was once only available if one was willing to travel for more than an hour to a big city. This was also the inspiration behind Smith starting the business as she was one of the many people who travel to Regina and other cities for such treatment.

"I just thought if I'm driving that far, it's possible then there are other people that are going to want to do the same treatment that I'm doing without the drive," she said.

Smith spent some time in Toronto to receive training in body contouring and also did distance training, completing several modules with DermaSpark. This is the same company she purchased her machines from and according the company's website, its devices are clinically proven to work.

Smith explains that the treatment process begins with a consultation where the client is assessed and based on the type of result the client is seeking she determines the amount of treatment that is required. From that point on there can be six to eight treatments done on a body part which is performed weekly. Smith explained that when starting her business just a month ago she was somewhat dubious but now she has some regular clients.

"Business has been going a lot better than how I ever expected it to go for my first month"Smith said.

"The number of clients I have right now is more than what I thought I would have."

Smith believes her business is a niche and hopes people in and around Carlyle will accommodate her services and says she is confident in her business.

"Just by the clients that I have, I know that a few of them have actually taken off to other cities, whether it's Regina or Brandon or Yorkton and there just hasn't been a machine as close to ours," she said.

She explained that there are machines in other cities but said her machines are the newest and are at the top of the trade right now. One machine she has called the Maximus does skin tightening and fat reduction through a heat regulated process while the other machine called the Geneo does facial treatment. The Geneo she said isn't the typical facial relaxing machine and isn't invasive like a micro dermal abrasion.

"You can walk away looking a little red for maybe an hour as opposed to being red from a chemical peel that lasts for a week." she said.

Karen Smith operates from 19 Mountain Drive in Carlyle on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and can be contact at 306-577-9792. She offers free consultation to discuss treatment plans. In addition she offers free treatment with first purchase treatment.
