Former Fillmore singer makes radio contest final

A former Fillmore teacher and singer, Chris Henderson, is one of several artists who have advanced to the finals in Saskatchewans Next Big Thing, a contest hosted by radio station Big Dog 92.7FM.

A former Fillmore teacher and singer, Chris Henderson, is one of several artists who have advanced to the finals in Saskatchewans Next Big Thing, a contest hosted by radio station Big Dog 92.7FM.

Henderson was in a semi-final on May 23, and beat out two other performers to advance to the finale to be held on Sunday, June 13 at the Pump Roadhouse. So far, he will be going up against Fox Worthee, with one more finalist to be determined this weekend.At an earlier semi-final, Weyburn singer Amanda Jane Duncan was one of the contestants but was not able to advance to the finals; she is planning to release a new CD this summer.Four years ago, Henderson won the Big Country Talent Search, out of which he was able to release his first single, The Difference You Make.He then went down to Nashville to record his first full-length album, called Follow the Signs, and he was subsequently nominated for four Saskatchewan Country Music Awards. His second album is slated to come out in 2011.For the current contest, the winner will receive about $20,000 worth of career development opportunities.
