ESTEVAN - A GoFundMe campaign is underway for a young woman who hails from Estevan and was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Renee Scholpp started the campaign, Help Jaylee to Kick Cancer, for her cousin Jaylee Paterson (nee Lavoie) – the daughter of Leah Terness and Jamie Kallis, and step-daughter to Mike Terness. Paterson now resides in Weyburn, where she works as a continuing care assistant.

“Jaylee was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and will be undergoing treatment very soon,” wrote Scholpp. “We are praying to raise enough money to help Jaylee cover monthly bills, and her gas to Regina and Saskatoon, as well as help care for the needs of her two-year-old son Lachlan, while she is away receiving treatment.

“Jaylee, we want you to know, we are praying for you and that you are not alone through this. You have a whole army standing beside you girl. You are so incredibly strong and we know that you will fight hard.”

Paterson has been off work since March 20, and her short-term disability claim has not been approved, even though the paperwork is in place from the oncologist.

As of Friday morning, the campaign had received $2,665 of its $5,000 goal, with 31 donors.
