Andrew Mok, an Executive Chef and Curry Specialist, enjoys interacting with his customers.

Hong Kong Professional Chefs General Union Member, China Professional Chefs Certificate, Asian Curry Specialist, International Grand Chef, Beijing CCV Media Centre Executive Chef, and a 2008 Olympic Game Chef Team Leader. With credentials like these you would expect to be heading to a big city, possibly even China itself, to enjoy a meal like this.

Andrew Mok, the man who holds these marks of distinction is located nearby. He and his family can be found at 323 Main Street right in Stoughton at Good Fortune Asian Cuisine. His journey to the area has been a long one having accumulated such accolades across Canada and China.

It was in 1976 that Mok first came to Canada. He arrived in his early 20s and began working in a Vancouver Four Seasons Hotel during the day, while spending his evenings at the Delta River Inn located in Richmond. He was studying for his journeyman's papers, which he would obtain along with his Canadian Citizenship.

Remaining in Canada for over 20 years he owned several restaurants including one in Flin Flon called The Silver Chopstick. This was listed on Anne Hardy's program, "Where to eat in Canada." Eventually he found himself travelling back to China.

In 2006 he took part in a culinary competition with 300 of the top chefs and sous-chefs in Chinese cuisine. This helped him become Executive Chef at the Beijing CCTV Media Centre as well as Chef Team Leader at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

He came back to Canada in the summer of 2010. Looking for the perfect place to open his restaurant he eventually found Stoughton, a booming town. He arrived at the end of January this year and by February had opened his 60 seat restaurant.

He researched an area that would be in need of his services and found "Saskatchewan is a blooming province," Mok stated.

Deciding not only would the area be good for business, he couldn't wait to bring his young family to live here as well. His family arrived approximately a month ago and he is very happy to have his wife Shanna here helping with his restaurant. As a family run business it welcomes everyone with a friendly open atmosphere.

Mok is often seen waiting, cooking, and serving the food enjoying interacting with those who choose to dine in his fine establishment.

"I can do all kinds of food, my specialty is curry and I particularly enjoy cooking seafood curry," Mok explained.

After interviewing Mok, he then began cooking a variety of dishes to show. Customers were raving about their meals. "It's to die for," was just one of the phrases they used to describe his food.

Mok then presented a few dishes both on and off of the menu. He brought out a poached lobster, lemon chicken, shrimp with cashew nuts and diced vegetables, fresh clams in white wine sauce, and curry seafood and pineapple fried rice.

Each one was presented beautifully and the aromas emitted were delicious in themselves. The tastes of each dish danced on ones taste buds. A Canadian favourite of lemon chicken is amazing, while the curry seafood is indescribably delicious.

Mok definitely has a gift and hopes to share this with everyone in the area, including many who travel from Regina to simply eat at his establishment. With a large menu boasting something for everyone including everything from appetizers, soup, chop suey, ribs, chicken, beef, seafood, rice, thick noodle dishes, chow mein, and Mok's specialty curry. He offers a variety of meal deals and is happy to present his Sunday dinner buffet starting at 5 p.m.

Mok and his family also offer a daily lunch buffet with free wonton soup for only $9.99 or $8.99 for seniors.

Take out is available and if anyone would like to stop by, Mok and his family would be very happy to host you in their restaurant. Dine in or call ahead at 457-3366 to place an order for take away.
