Good showing at CCA Rodeo Finals

The Canadian Cowboys Association wound up its rodeo season with the CCA Finals Rodeo in Swift Current from October 18 to 21.

The Canadian Cowboys Association wound up its rodeo season with the CCA Finals Rodeo in Swift Current from October 18 to 21. Some of the events included novice competition, bareback, saddle bronc, and the popular bull riding as well as the CCA Rodeo Appreciation Night. A large contingent of rodeo athletes from the south country were competing over the four days.
South country entrants dominated in barrel racing. Karli Cowie of Mankota placed second, April Williamson placed sixth and Krystal Grad of Gravelbourg placed twelfth. In bareback competition, Calder Peterson of Glentworth placed tenth. In bull riding, Chance Switzer of Hazenmore ranked sixth, and Tyson Thue of Bengough ranked ninth overall. The event was dominated by Callum Miller of Australia.
Steer wrestling saw two from the south country place in the top 12. Riley Hayes of Val Marie placed sixth and Zane Marcenko of Rockglen placed ninth. In team roping, Chanse Switzer of Hazenmore teamed up with Garrett Brownlee to place eighth. Blaine Switzer and Shawn Williamson of Mankota placed tenth. In tie down roping, Shawn Williamson placed second, Shay Keller of Rockglen was ranked eleventh. In junior steers, Colt Kornfeld of Val Marie placed fourth.
The CCA also released its official standings for 2017. Chanse Switzer of Hazenmore was ranked number one for all around. In the Canadian High Point Award, Shawn Williamson of Mankota ranked eighth, Zane Marcenko of Rockglen ranked tenth, and Chanse Switzer of Hazenmore ranked twelfth. In bull riding, Thue Tyson of Bengough ranked third, Chanse Switzer of Hazenmore placed sixth. In tie down roping, Shawn Williamson of Mankota ranked sixth, Ross Walburger of Wood Mountain ranked tenth, and Shay Keller of Rockglen ranked thirteenth.
In steer wrestling, Zane Marcenko of Rockglen ranked fourth. Riley Hayes of Val Marie ranked fifteenth. In ladies barrel racing, Krystal Grad of Gravelbourg ranked fifth, Karli Cowie of Mankota ranked tenth, and Robbi Keller of Rockglen ranked twelfth. In Junior steer riding, Colt Kornfeld of Val Marie ranked first, and Orrin Marshall of Coronach ranked tenth. In novice bareback, Liam Marshall ranked third. In novice saddle bronc, Chance Sjorgren of Big Beaver ranked third, and Thue Tyson of Bengough ranked fourth.
In novice bull riding Thue Tyson of Bengough ranked second, and Jud Colliness of Kincaid ranked ninth. For team roping heeler, Ben Switzer of Hazenmore ranked eleventh. For team roping header, Chanse Switzer of Hazenmore ranked tenth. Riley Hayes of Val Marie ranked thirteenth. Karli Cowie of Mankota ranked fourth in the rodeo rookie rankings.
