Gordon F. Kells High School Cougar Corner

There are 26 GFK student leaders and 4 chaperones attending the very first We Day Saskatchewan at the Credit Union Centre on February 27th, 2013! The students are getting very excited about this day that is centered around social action.

The Student Leadership Team is selling "We Are Love" buttons in the month of February. All proceeds will support "We" initiatives around the world.

Junior drama practices continue every Thursday after school from 3:30pm to 5:00pm from now until April. Senior drama practices are every Monday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Curling practices are Tuesday and Thursday after school.

Senior Badminton started this week.

GFK curling teams are in full swing preparing for their SEDAA play downs. The Jr. SEDAA Curling playoff takes place on February 8th and 9th with the girls in Lampman and 2 boys' teams competing in Maryfield.They are also having exhibition games against Alameda. The Sr. Girls Curling Playoffs are held on February 12th and 13th in Oxbow. Good luck to all teams.

The Search Institute has identified the building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. The Cougar Corner will list 2 of these 40 Developmental Assets each week for the next 20 weeks. One of these assets is "Achievement Motivation." The Institute reports that for healthy development, young people should be motivated to do well at school. Another asset is "School Engagement." Healthy young people are actively engaged in learning.
