GFK - Recycle for Education Finalist:

This month the SLT has been focusing on conservation. Ms. Broberg and her crew have done a great job reminding us that even as individuals, we have an important role to play in reducing, re-using, and recycling. Every week there has been a different conservation goal and activity. Our school is one of 100 schools across Canada (and one of only 2 schools in the province) to become a finalist in the 2014 Staples Canada Recycle for Education Contest! There were more than 700 schools that applied! Way to go GFK students. The SLT was also busy with recently with Egg related activities at lunch. (Egg Toss, Egg Races, etc.). Last week, many students also took part in the Vow of Silence to raise funds and bring awareness to children's issues around the world.

On Thursday, May 1, students of both Carlyle schools will be involved in activities and presentations related to "Pink Day." This is a day to remind students and the whole community of the importance of stopping bullying in all of its forms.

Recently, G.F. Kells High School and Cornerstone Theatre Group hosted the 2014 Saskatchewan Drama Association Region 1 Festival. Thank you also to all of the staff and student volunteers who helped make the festival a success. At the Festival, awards were given to many of the cast and crew from the 2 Carlyle productions. For the play Selfie, awards went to Desiray Weber for Sound, Jasmine Pylatuik for Crew, Megan McAuley and Daysha Smith received Acting Awards of Merit, Emily Klatt received an Acting Medal, and Brooklyn Zacharias received the Unsung Hero Award. Congratulations to all of the directors and participants in the festival. Your plays were terrific.

Congratulations to Ethan Dyck, Janelle Boutin, Jory Dyck, Breanna Kehler, and Emily Klatt for receiving special awards and scholarships from the Redvers Music Festival. Jory also advances to the Provincial Music Competition to be held in Regina in June.

Students competed at the badminton Pre-Districts last week. Marshall Delorme, Kirk Zacharias, Dalton Laustel, Kirkland Chalus, Megan Shirley, Sam Matthewson, Brooklyn Zacharias, Jordan Gudmundson, and Josh Brown all played hard and did well. Renae Faford, Kacey Valentine, Vanessa Bendtsen, Mitchell Morrison, Marc Shaw, Mykayla Brems, Desiray Weber all finished in the top 2 and advance to Regionals. Congratulations to all participants.

On the last Thursday of the month, students from the G.F. Kells High School will be out in the community for 2 hours after school (3:15-5:15). They will be volunteering their time to make our community a better, cleaner place. The next 2 Thursdays they are cleaning up garbage, and shingles, around town. If you would like some extra help, we are here for you. Please contact Miss Wiebe via email: angelica.wiebe@cornerstonesd.ca with your ideas for Day of Help!
