February is Heart Month and the Heart&Stroke Foundation will be hosting a kick off rally event to begin the month-long focus on the fight against heart disease. The Heart&Stroke Heart Rally will be held at the Perfect Inns on January 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Heart disease claims a Canadian life every seven minutes. Nine in 10 Saskatchewan people have at least one major risk factor. This year, the Foundation is asking residents of Weyburn to take personal action as simple as cooking a heart-healthy meal, taking a daily walk or becoming smoke-free.

Heart Rallies are fun, interactive and inspiring events where canvassers pick up their canvasser kits, learn tips on how to make their canvass a big success, and where members of the public can learn more about how to make healthy changes that will add healthy years to their lives.

Attendees will get a chance to take part in a great family event, focusing on children and family physical activity.

"We have ramped up the help we can provide to people of all ages, through our online tools that help you assess your personal risk for heart disease and stroke and learn how you can add healthy years to your life by making simple lifestyle changes," said the Foundation's Weyburn Campaign Coordinator, Lisa Frederick.

"During February, our person-to-person fundraising volunteers will be asking their friends and neighbours to support research and education aimed at giving Canadians longer, healthier lives," added Frederick. "More than 100,000 volunteers will rally together across Canada to raise life-giving funds. Every donation - whether at the door, online, or through an event - is giving the people you care about a better chance to prevent or beat this disease."

The Foundation has a large and dedicated base of volunteer canvassers who make its Door-to-Door campaign possible. However they are still in need of a few more people looking to make a difference, and who are willing to donate as little as one to three hours of their free time throughout February.
