The Carlyle Pentecostal Assembly had approximately 20 youth take part in last weekend 30-hour-famine.

The group began the fast Saturday morning, and broke it with a Mother's Day pot luck Sunday.

Advertising was done through the paper as well as posters around the town. Large signs were placed in the centre of Main Street advertising their fundraising events.

The youth were kept busy all day Saturday with activities. They participated in a car wash to raise extra funds for their cause. The rain held off all weekend, and granted them heat and sunshine so that the car wash was rather fun, and involved the occasional spray of water at their mates.

Inside, a larger bake sale and silent auction were also run by the kids.

The area youth have participated in the annual spring World Vision event for two years. Each year it is voted upon as to which cause the money will go to.

"This year we decided on food," said Nicole "We asked World Vision which cause needed the money most, and they informed us that a specific part of Africa was in a dire need of nourishment. "

It was agreed upon that because the youth were going without food, donating money towards people who go through what they went through for merely 30 hours, daily.

In total the youth raised approximately $1,000.

World Vision's 30 hour famine began in Calgary 36 years ago, with 21 different countries currently involved. It is the largest fundraiser with an expectation of raising $50,000,000 world- wide this year.
