Spring is in the air and it's time to spring into action. Community residents are encouraged to take up the fight against cancer of all kinds with the Canadian Cancer Society's launch of Relay For Life.

There will be a kick off for the annual Weyburn Relay For Life at the Soo Theatre on Saturday, Mar. 31 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome, so bring other coworkers, friends, neighbours, family and more.

The doors open at 10 a.m., and residents are encouraged to come early to get their seat. The event includes presentation from speakers who will share the reason they Relay, celebrating the stars of Relay through videos and testimonials, and hearing all about how people can get involved in Relay For Life. During the whole event, popcorn will be served to all those attending.

"Relay for Life is more than just a walk, it is an opportunity for all to raise money and join together in a fight against cancer," said Caroline Gillies, chair of the Relay committee.

"For many, we know someone who has had cancer, cared for someone with cancer, or even lost someone to cancer," added Gillies. "Relay For Life can be your way to take action against cancer, remember loved ones and show support."

"It is also a great way to get out and have a lot of fun. Entertainment and activities run throughout the night into the wee hours of the morning," said Gillies. "Become a volunteer, sign up a team, become a sponsor, donate, come out to the event and join the Relay Nation and make a difference!"

Relay For Life will be held on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2 at Crescent Point Place. It is a 12-hour event, starting 6 p.m. on Friday and ending 6 a.m. on Saturday. The theme is "Celebrate - Remember - Fight Back".

Any residents who have questions, or want to get involved in Relay For Life, can contact the Southeast Unit office of the Canadian Cancer Society in Weyburn, or Caroline Gillies, Relay chair.
