Lake Alma (cpd) - Allan and Sharon Buckner returned home to Beaubier on Dec. 18 from Saskatoon after spending time up there where Allan underwent surgery and treatments.

Larry and Eleanor Skjerdal were Weyburn goers on Dec. 21 where Larry had a dental appointment and they also visited with his mother, Delores and Duane Larsen. Roy Lohse was also a caller at the Larsens and he and Duane went to Kisbey to check out some cattle.

Clare and Ida Offet traveled to Regina on Dec. 9 and went with Craig and Charmaine Offet and Harold and Marg Blackmore to Moosomin in the late afternoon where they attended the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and SaskEnergy volunteer of the year award ceremony that took place at the rink during the first intermission of a game between the Moosomin Rangers and Ochapowace Thunder honoring Curtis Offet.

It was the largest crowd a Rangers home game had this season, undoubtedly a testament to the character Offet displayed and work he accomplished. He was presented a plaque from the SHA by Kelly McClintock, general manager of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and a very appropriate painting by Yvette Moore by MLA Don Toth. Offet, who began his officiating career in Moosomin in the 1990s fell victim to a back injury that would subsequently keep him off the ice, but wouldn't keep him from giving back to the game he loves. He became the Referee-in-Chief, a position he held for more than a decade.

He was dealt another blow when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2010 and although he decided to step away from the Referee-in-Chief position this year, Offet didn't stay idle. Despite his prognosis Offet continued to volunteer with Moosomin Minor Hockey league. The Offets and Blackmores returned to Regina that evening. Courtney Offet and friend Derrick also attended the ceremony.

Clare and Ida visited with Don and Marie Jacobson on Dec. 10 and returned to Weyburn the next day. They returned to Regina on Dec. 12, and stayed at Rick and Suzanne Brown's house while they, Darcie, Janessa and Carson Bell and Jessica and Rachel Brown were away to Mexico for a week's holiday from Dec. 9-16. On Dec. 13 Clare and Ida were supper guests along with Kevin Jacobson and Diane Glennie at Craig and Charmaine Offet's, the occasion being Craig's birthday on the 16th, but celebrated it early. The Offets returned to Weyburn on Dec. 16.

Melissa Lohse was a Weyburn goer on Dec. 16 and her grandmother, Delores Larsen, returned home with her. Delores helped her do some Christmas baking and Grandpa Duane went down to Lake Alma the next day and took her back to Weyburn.

Garry Offet was a supper guest with Clare and Ida Offet on Dec. 17, and had spent a few days at Big River earlier that week visiting with family and friends.
Due to being in Regina there was no news last week, so I sincerely hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas, with the weather so nice how could anybody not, and I would like to wish all my readers a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
