Sometimes all it takes is a little effort to make a difference.

That is exactly what Lana Gording and Jenna Brady, certified instructors with Zumba International, did after hearing that Red Cross was in need of donations to assist with flood relief in Saskatchewan.

On June 22, Red Cross Western Canada division sent out a press release detailing the urgent need for flood victims in Saskatchewan families. The organization works closely with provincial and municipal governments to meet the needs of families affected by disasters. Heavy rains have led to the evacuation of families in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan.

The two instructors organized an hour-long Zumba fundraiser at Carlyle Elementary School on July 1. The event raised more than $1,000 in donations for the cause with all money raised staying in Saskatchewan.

The Red Cross is working diligently in the province providing registration procedures for evacuated families, supporting shelters in Weyburn and Estevan and providing assistance to families as they recover from disasters.

If you were unable to attend the Zumba flood relief fundraiser and would like to contribute, there are several ways to make financial donations. These include: online at www.redcross.ca, toll-free at 1-800-418-1111, in-person at Red Cross offices, or at any Saskatchewan Credit Union branch. The donations to the Western Canada Severe Weather Fund in response to Saskatchewan floods or other disaster should be earmarked "Saskatchewan Disasters."
