The Weyburn Police Service, assisted by the Regina Police Service Regina Children's Justice Centre are investigating a serious assault that occurred in Weyburn on Saturday.
The Weyburn Police Service, assisted by the Regina Police Service Regina Children's Justice Centre are investigating a serious assault that occurred in Weyburn on Saturday.
The accused in this incident has been identified by police as Andrew Harper, 32, who has been charged by Weyburn police with aggravated assault.
At about 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, a three-year-old boy was rushed to the Weyburn General Hospital with serious injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries the child was transported to the Regina General Hospital by the Regina Neo-Natal Transport Team where the child underwent emergency surgery. Members of the Weyburn Police Service, Weyburn Integrated Serious Crime Unit and the Weyburn Police Service Forensic Identification Unit spent most of Sunday afternoon at the scene of the assault gathering evidence.
Police said Harper is known to the victim and the family, and the assault happened in the victim's home. As of noon on Monday, the child was listed in critical condition.
