Man in custody following shooting in Carlyle on Saturday night

Carlyle RCMP are reporting they have arrested and charged a 49-year-old Carlyle man and charged him with aggravated assault after he allegedly shot another man in the leg.


Carlyle RCMP are reporting they have arrested and charged a 49-year-old Carlyle man and charged him with aggravated assault after he allegedly shot another man in the leg. Other charges include assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The victim sustained a "serious gunshot wound" on Sept. 6 at about 11:50 p.m. and was taken to the Arcola Hospital before being airlifted to Regina by STARS air ambulance.

The victim is recovering in hospital, and the accused will be appearing in Estevan provincial court Monday morning.

The alleged 49-year-old shooter fled the scene on foot following the incident.

Carlyle RCMP members, along with the assistance of the Regina RCMPPolice DogServices, were able to locatethe suspected man at his residence in Carlyle and he was arrested a short time later without incident.

The Carlyle RCMP and Yorkton Forensic Identification Section executed a search warrant on the male suspect's residence and recovered a firearm suspected to be used in the shooting.

The accused is in custody while the victim is recovering in hospital.

The investigation is on going.
