Weyburn and area residents are encouraged to run, walk or bike in the annual Terry Fox Run.

The Marathon of Hope will be held on Sunday, September 18 at River Park in Weyburn. Registration starts at 12 Noon from the campground office. The run will follow at 1:00 p.m. and will continue until 4:00 p.m.

The 2011 Terry Fox Run will be held in more than 900 communities nationwide on September 18. In 2010, the Run helped raise just under $1 million provincially for cancer research alone and over $14 in Saskatchewan since its inception.

"Whether you run, walk, bike or wheel, there is no entry fee or minimum donation to take part," explained Robert Barr, provincial director with the Terry Fox Foundation. "Terry wanted people to give from the heart and show their support by participating even if they couldn't afford a monetary contribution. It's one of the many unique elements that set this fundraiser apart from any other."

The Terry Fox Foundation directs 85 cents of every dollar raised to cancer research and supports one of the lowest administration cost percentages of any Canadian charity. To date, over $550 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name.
