March 28th to be a day of IMPACT

It can be both a trying time, and a relief, when children draw near to school age. For parents all over Canada, concerns about children's readiness to begin their academic career can cause some sleepless nights.

It can be both a trying time, and a relief, when children draw near to school age.

For parents all over Canada, concerns about children's readiness to begin their academic career can cause some sleepless nights.

In recognition of this, and to help both young children and parents prepare for that major step, the annual IMPACT Early Childhood Celebration will be ready to go on March 28th.

The event, which is designed for children turning age four in 2012, is using the theme this year of Under the Sea Fun.

Supported by the Community Initiatives Fund, as well as the CanWest Raise a Reader program, the aim of the IMPACT event is to offer parents and children some new and creative ways to prepare children to be successful students.

The event, which is held in the gymnasium of Carlyle Elementary School (CES,) features a series of stations for children and parents to attend, each one offering a unique educational insight, wrapped within a fun activity for children.

This year, any children turning four in 2012 will received a free educational package at the event, whose retail value is around $40.

This year's stations stick to the undersea theme, and include puzzles, a reading corner, fish crafts, a Fish in a Lake snack, and fish bowl counting, among others.

The annual event is set to kick-off at 5 p.m. at the CES gymnasium, and will run until 7 p.m.
