Mayor proclaims Catholic Women's League week

Weyburn's Mayor Debra Button has officially declared "Catholic Women's League of Canada Week" for the week of April 29 to May 5, 2012.

(L-R) Weyburn Regional CWL president Marilyn Schuck, Weyburn's Mayor Debra Button and Regina Archdiocesan president Chantal Devine, were present for the Mayor's signing of a proclamation at City Hall on March 28, declaring the week of April 29 to May 5 to be "Catholic Women's League Week" in Weyburn. The local chapter of the national organization will be hosting the 89th Annual Diocesan Convention in Weyburn April 29 to 30.

Weyburn's Mayor Debra Button has officially declared "Catholic Women's League of Canada Week" for the week of April 29 to May 5, 2012.

The Catholic Women's League of Canada is a national organization rooted in gospel values, contributing to the spiritual, educational, social and cultural growth of the Catholic community in Weyburn and all the communities in which it is present.

According to the Mayor's proclamation, "The City of Weyburn recognizes the valuable contribution to the well-being of the community made by the women of the Catholic Women's League."

"Through their efforts, the women of the League have supported church activities and the well-being of youth by providing scholarships and funds for extracurricular and curricular projects. They have also supported interfaith dialogue and raised funds and awareness for many social and health-related concerns. They have been leaders in the local community and on the provincial, national and international scene."

"Furthermore, the City of Weyburn acknowledges the contribution of the local council, St. Vincent de Paul Council, which has served the community of Weyburn since it was formed on October 28, 1926.

The League in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Regina is meeting in Weyburn for its 89th Annual Diocesan Convention from Sunday, April 29 to Monday, April 30. The convention is "Centred on Faith & Justice" and will feature special speakers Darci Lang and Jim Anderson.
