Midale Oilmen's Assoc. to host 24th annual bonspiel

Midale (cpd) - The Midale Oilmen's Association will be hosting their 24th Annual Curling Bonspiel from Feb. 23 to 25 this year. Registration is $200 per team of four and includes the curling, supper and a dance on the 24th, as well as daytime snacks.

The Midale Oilmen's Association recently donated an ice maker for use in the bar and at all functions held at the rinks. It arrived this week and should be hooked up shortly.

The Midale Mustangs have started playoffs. They played their first game against Carlyle on Feb. 10. Details will follow next week. They play Carlyle again tonight, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. in game three of the best of five series. The Mustangs have set Saturday, Feb. 18 as game five at home if necessary. The Mustangs are playing in provincials again this year and will meet Shaunavon here on Feb. 25 at 8 p.m.

The Midale Mini Mustangs played in an initiation tournament in Lake Alma on Feb. 11. Details will follow in next week's paper. The Mini Mustangs will play host to Weyburn's MVP Leafs on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m., and to Lampman on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. They will also host the team from Lake Alma on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
The Midale Skating Club has three skaters going to Weyburn's First CanSkate and StarSkate Festival on Saturday, Feb. 18. The three are all competing in three events.

There will be free public skating on Friday, Feb. 17, Saturday, Feb. 18, and Sunday, Feb. 19 from 2-4 p.m.

The Midale 39er's will be hosting a pancake breakfast at the 39er's building on Tuesday, Feb. 21 for Shrove Tuesday. It will run from 8-10 a.m. The cost will be $5 for adults and students and will be free for children aged six and under.

There were a few errors reported in the previous board election news that was held a few weeks ago. The president is Ferdy Kuhn, vice-president is Albert Penill, treasurer is Cliff Lowry, secretary is Betty Kramer, and member at large is Freck Waite.

The building committee is comprised of Lawrence Moldenhauer, Albert Penill and Garnet Kerr. For any bookings or enquiries please call Vinold Carlson, who is the booking agent for the 39er's.

The Weyburn Red Wings players visited Midale Central School students on Feb. 9 to show them the importance of literacy by reading sports-related stories with them. The players compared their own experiences to the stories and shared their life lessons with them.

Midale Central School is hosting the Regional Science Fair for South East Cornerstone School Division on March 15, 2012. This will be a chance for all Grade 7-12 students to show off their science skills by completing a science fair project of their choice. The deadline for all projects to be handed in will be on March 8, so organizers have time to make any changes if necessary. The top projects from Regionals will continue on to the Canada-Wide Science Fair being held in Charlottetown, PEI. This is a great opportunity for all students. The Midale and Area Recreation Board (M.O.R.E.2000) has set Saturday, April 14 as the day for their 18th annual Fun-D-Raiser Supper and Auction. Details will follow as will ads in the paper and posters around town. They are reminding you that this is their biggest fundraiser and without it they could not keep the hockey and curling rinks open. Please donate items to the fundraiser or plan to attend the event.
