Volunteers are Sun-sational. That was this year's theme at the volunteer tea held at Moose Mountain Lodge, Carlyle.

Similar events took place throughout the week in Redvers and Arcola.

The event was held in honour of those who give their time and hard work to the Sun Country Health Region.

"We try to come up with a new theme every year," said the building's Recreational Director. "We want the volunteers to feel appreciated for a day. They deserve it every day."

The building was decorated with beach themed décor including pink flamingos, grass skirts, paper fans and brightly coloured streamers.

The event began at 2 p.m. on the snowy Tuesday Afternoon of April 17.

The Health Center's regular monthly band played older tunes, as the patients had enormous grins on their faces, and the volunteers got a chance to come together to chat.

Although the weather kept many of the older volunteers away, they were not forgotten.

Anna Erick, the building's Recreational Director and Corinne Andres, Volunteer Coordinator were very pleased with the event.

"This day is to thank all of the volunteers from the community." said Andres. "Many volunteers come out once a week, some even come out every day. Some people are volunteering here before we even realize they are."

The Meals on Wheels program is one of the most appreciated services in town, and is run completely by volunteers from the town's businesses.

"The churches and the businesses are what keep our programs alive. They are so important for a lot of the older members of our community," explained Andres.
