A new direction and significant changes will be coming for the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre. Local residents who are interested in discussing ideas for new programs are invited to their annual meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the basement of the T.C. Douglas Centre.

"We are looking for new members for the board," said Wendy Sidloski, the booking coordinator for the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre.

"This could be a fresh start for the board," added Sidloski. She said that currently they only have four members on the board, and they can have up to 12 members.

The general public is also invited to the annual general meeting, since the board will be looking for new program ideas and suggestions to keep the centre active during the year.

Currently, the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre does not have an artistic director.

"We are wide-open to suggestions. So if people know of concerts, or poetry readings, or something else that they think is appropriate, we encourage them to attend the annual general meeting," said Sidloski.

The Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre is an active historic facility open for visits, tours, live theatre productions, wedding ceremonies, piano recitals and musical entertainment.

As with all historic buildings, on-going maintenance, renovations and improvements preserve the cherished heritage which honours the Douglas legacy and affirms the continued memory of their rich history.

The Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre is located at 400 10th Avenue SE in Weyburn. It is a centre for performing arts and meeting room with kitchen for catered events.

Constructed in 1906, it was built as the Calvary Baptist Church, where Tommy Douglas had preached during his time in Weyburn. The church was moved from downtown Weyburn in 1985 and transformed into a centre for the performing arts.
