The drilling floor is busy as a drilling rig sinks an injection well more than three kilometres below the surface for the injection of carbon dioxide (CO2) for a research project entitled Aquistore. Set up by the PTRC, which began CO2 research by following the injection of CO2 for enhanced oil recovery in the Weyburn and Midale oil fields, they are studying to see if the technology can be used elsewhere in the world to store CO2 far underground. Aquistore was set up on rejuvenated industrial land near the Boundary Dam power station at Estevan.
