Residents are being asked to fill a shoe box for a child in-need for Operation Christmas Child.

Residents are being asked to fill a shoe box for a child in-need for Operation Christmas Child.

An annual project of Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child goes to great lengths to bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the globe. This unique project offers families, churches, schools, organizations and individuals an opportunity to reach out to needy children around the world.

Participation is simple - find an empty shoe box (or get one from a participating business), decide on the age and gender of the child you wish to buy for and fill the box with appropriate gifts such as small toys, school supplies, hygiene items, hard candy, sunglasses, ball caps, socks, t-shirts, jewellery, hair clips, watches and etc. Do not include items that are stained or worn-out, war-related toys and items, perishable items, medicines, breakable items or liquids.

Each shoe box donation must include a $7 donation to assist in the cost of shipping overseas.

The Free Methodist Church will, once again, serve as the local collection depot for Operation Christmas Child. The collection deadline is Sunday, November 21 at 4 p.m.
