Recently, the deadline to purchase the pink T-shirts was extended from Jan. 31 to Mar. 1.
To order a T-shirt, residents can go to www.redcross.ca/dayofpink and go through the process online. There are links for both residents in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Each T-shirt costs $11, and that money goes back into the Canadian Red Cross for their Respect ED programs. These programs teach students about bully awareness.
There are also Red Cross "Day of Pink" stickers that can be purchased for $2.
The Canadian Red Cross "Day of Pink" is an initiative that provides students, staff and the larger community with the opportunity to discuss the impact of bullying and to learn how they can use their power to help create a safe and respectful school environment. Local schools, businesses and organizations are invited to participate in the "Day of Pink", by wearing their pink T-shirt on April 10.
The "Day of Pink" started in 2007, when two high school students in Nova Scotia took a stand against bullying in their school.
The students asked all of their peers to wear pink to school after they heard a male classmate had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt.
To continue the momentum, the Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink campaign brings together schools and communities to wear the shirt and stand together against bullying.
