Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of February 10 to 17:
During the reporting period, police responded to 109 calls for service. On February 14 and 15, the Weyburn Police Service participated in a provincial wide traffic blitz. During the two-day blitz, police checked 736 vehicles. As a result, they wrote 27 traffic violations at intersections. The two day Blitz, 'Operation Cross Roads' was aimed at intersection safety.
* With the amount of snowfall this winter, residents are enjoying the use of their snowmobiles. Police continue to get a number of complaints in regards to people operating them in areas they are not permitted. Police ask snowmobile enthusiasts to be responsible users and not drive within the city limits, except on the river.
*On February 16, police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence. The two male subjects were in conflict over money and property. Police assisted in getting the property back and resolved the conflict.
*Police attended a residence, which had been broken into, in the northwest part of the city. The culprit(s) entered the residence and stole a number of items, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Nobody was home at the time of the break in and the matter is under investigation.
*Police received a call from another residence in the central part of Weyburn, also reporting a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the house and stole the home owner's belongings. Police believe the two break and enters are related and they continue to investigate.
*Police responded to the youth center after receiving a report of mischief to the property. Individual(s) had damaged some furniture inside. The matter is under investigation.
*Police found two females having a fight in a parking lot of a local bar. They were separated and provided transportation out of the area.
*On February 15, police attended a motor vehicle accident in front of the Weyburn Leisure Centre on Fifth Street. There were no injuries in the minor accident and the drivers were directed to SGI to report for insurance purposes.
*Police received a report of a person receiving threats from an individual known to them. The incident stemmed from a domestic situation and the matter is still under investigation.
*Police were called to a local bar to assist an extremely intoxicated male. The concern was that the individual would try to drive his vehicle. The individual was so extremely intoxicated that he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
*Police walked through the above-mentioned bar and advised the establishment that a number of customers no longer should be served alcohol, due to their level of intoxication.
*Police located a person walking in an alley. The female adult was on conditions and was in breach of those conditions. She was arrested and charged for breach of an undertaking and was later released.
*After police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, the driver was found to have an outstanding warrant. He was subsequently arrested and later released to the agency that held the warrant.
*On February 14, police were called to resolve a civil conflict over a sale of property. The property was returned and the buyer received their money back. The incident was resolved without further police involvement.
*Police attended a residence to keep the peace for a domestic dispute. The individuals were parting ways, dividing property and required police intervention. The situation was dealt with without incident.
*On February 13, police attended to a call regarding a youth with mental health issues. The concerning behavior of the young person required the need for medical attention. Victim services and police assisted with connecting the family to external support systems including Mental Health professionals.
*Police attended to a residence to deal with a domestic situation requiring intervention to prevent the situation from escalating. The conflict was resolved without the need to remove either participant from the residence.
*On February 12, police attended a residence to deal with a young person having mental health issues. The young person was overwhelmed with personal issues and required some support. Victim services attended with police to assist the victim.
*Police were called regarding a potential drunk driver. The caller was concerned because there were children in the vehicle. It was determined that the driver was not intoxicated. Police responded to a number of reported drunk drivers. The number of calls received is in part due to the RID (Report Impaired Drivers) Program. This is a program initiated by Police Partners across the province to encourage the public to report Impaired Drivers to police.
*Police attended to a complaint from CP Rail in regard to unusual behavior from a motorist around the train track while a train passed through the city. The motorist had left the area prior to police arrival.
*On February 11, police attended a residence of a complaint of two individuals banging on the windows. Police located the two individuals responsible and they were brought in for questioning. The two were trying to look for an individual they believed resided at the location.
*Police received a report from social services requesting assistance with an investigation of inappropriate behavior alleged toward a young child, by a caregiver. The joint agency investigation is ongoing.
*On February 10, police attended to a residence as a result of a concerned neighbour who had reported a potential break-in. Initially police were led to believe that the two males had permission to be at the residence, as they knew the home owner. Further investigation revealed that they did in fact break in to the residence. One of the individuals returned later that evening and broke into the garage of the residence. As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old male was charged for one count of break and enter and will make his first court appearance in March. He was released on an undertaking. A second 24-year-old male is facing two counts of break and enter and one count of obstruction for providing a false identity. He was held in custody where he appeared in court on February 11. He was released on conditions and will make his next appearance on February 26.
