Police deal with mischief/vandalism

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of July 11 to 17: *Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 39 and Government Road.

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of July 11 to 17:

*Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 39 and Government Road. The driver of a semi hit a pickup truck and was charged for failing to stop at a red traffic light. Minor injuries were reported and an ambulance was called as a precautionary measure.

*Police received several calls related to harassment, bullying and/or threats made through texting or social networks such as Facebook. This has become a growing concern and police urge parents to speak to their children and be more aware of their communications.

*Several buildings and vehicles were vandalized with graffiti on two separate evenings. Many churches were victimized with spray paint as well as several vehicles.

*Officers responded to a local restaurant after a customer left without paying. One male was charged for obtaining food by fraudulent means.

*Police intervention was required when two neighbours disputed over the location of their shared property line. The parties involved were advised to contact the City to determine the actual location.

*Police attended to Jubilee Park regarding a noise complaint. Officers spoke to several youth and requested that they keep the noise level down. No alcohol or drugs were involved.

*Police responded to Jubilee Park on another occasion as several kids were lighting off fireworks. The individuals left the park in an older white car.

*An elderly woman required assistance getting home as she got disorientated and lost her way while on her scooter.

*Police attended to a minor accident at a local parking lot as the parties involved were having a disagreement. The matter was resolved without charges.

*Police were called to a local motel as management feared a male from British Columbia was going to leave without paying. The individual paid for the accommodation but further investigation resulted in a charge of possession of stolen property.

*An incident of assault was reported by the staff of the Weyburn Leisure Center. Officers attended and spoke to a male who yelled and grabbed his young daughter aggressively. The matter is being investigated further.

*Police responded to several calls of pets being locked in parked vehicles. The weather has been very hot lately and temperatures inside a vehicle, even with the windows open slightly, can reach levels harmful to animals within minutes. Police are warning residents not to leave their pet in a vehicle.

*Police received 102 calls for service during this reporting period, resulting in 16 charges being laid.
