Police investigate pellet gun injury

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of May 2 to 9: *On May 6, police attended to the Weyburn General Hospital in regards to an assault.

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of May 2 to 9:

*On May 6, police attended to the Weyburn General Hospital in regards to an assault. Investigation revealed that the victim, an 11-year-old male, was playing in the 900 block of Park Avenue when he was struck in the head with a pellet from a pellet gun. The youth suffered minor injuries. Investigation is ongoing.

*On May 5 at 11:25 a.m., police attended with the Fire Department to a business on Sims Avenue. An odour similar to natural gas was present in the store. SaskEnergy also attended and determined that the odour was from the sewer.

*A motor vehicle was taken without consent from a driveway in the 600 block of Staveley Crescent. The owner had left his keys in the vehicle overnight and in the morning someone had moved the vehicle further down the street. Police are still investigating this incident.

*On May 4 at 12:15 p.m., police attended to a two-car motor vehicle accident in the 10 block of Fourth Street. Investigation revealed that a 16-year-old female was traveling east in an alley and attempted a turn onto Fourth Street without yielding to an oncoming car. There were no injuries and the 16-year-old driver was charged with failure to yield right of way.

*On May 4, police attended to a report of a noisy party in the 1800 block of 18th Street. As a result, a 17-year-old female was charged with disturbing the peace by having a noisy party.

*Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a fire in an alley in the 10 block of 18th Street on May 4. At approximately 4:30 p.m., two male youths were playing with matches and a torch when some plastic toys caught on fire. Police and Fire personnel are having the two youths attend a Fire Awareness Program that is put on by the Weyburn Fire Department.

*Police are investigating a theft complaint that occurred in the 1100 block of Park Avenue. On May 3 an unknown person entered a garden shed and stole three different types of saws and accessories. Anyone with information is asked to contact Weyburn Police or Crime Stoppers.

*On May 1 at approximately 1 a.m., police were called to a motor vehicle accident in the 400 block of Second Street. Investigation revealed that a 61-year-old male from Weyburn lost control of his truck and struck three trees before stopping. Damage to the truck was extensive. The male faces charges of impaired driving and refusal of a breath test. He will be making a court appearance later this month.

*During the past two weeks, police have received numerous complaints about thefts from motor vehicles in all areas of the city. As a result of police investigations and public assistance, six people are facing 45 charges. All of them will be appearing in court later this month.

*The Weyburn Police Service received 125 requests for assistance during this reporting period.
