During the reporting period of Aug. 5-12, the Weyburn Police Service dealt with 89 calls for service, including some accidents, a car theft and a break-in.
The Weyburn Police Service were called to a single motor vehicle accident on the 1300 block of Park Avenue on Aug. 6, involving a black four-door truck. The vehicle had been traveling east on Park Avenue and struck a tree, and upon police arrival, the engine area of the vehicle was found to be on fire. The Weyburn Fire Department and Weyburn Emergency Medical Services attended the scene.
Two 19-year-old males were transported to Weyburn General Hospital and later transferred to Regina for further medical attention. Both males sustained serious injuries but are believed to be in stable condition. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The police received information on Aug. 8 regarding a vehicle that had been stolen from Edmonton and was believed to be in Weyburn. The vehicle was located parked in the 400 block of Fourth Street and was seized.
A 19-year-old male walked into the police station on Aug. 6, telling the dispatcher he wanted to commit suicide.
The male was taken to the Weyburn General Hospital where he was assessed and admitted to the psychiatric facility.
City police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Third Street and Highway 39 on Friday. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and a traffic light was also damaged. A 54-year-old male and a 52-year-old female from one vehicle and a 51-year-old female from the other vehicle were taken to the Weyburn General Hospital and then all were transferred to Regina with undetermined injuries. The matter is still under investigation but charges are expected to be laid. Alcohol was not a factor.
Police were called to a local nightclub to deal with several fights that had broke out on Saturday. Many of the combatants were gone before the police arrived.
On Saturday, the police responded to a report of a break-in to one of the Weyburn schools. It does not appear that anything was taken. The matter is still under investigation.
On Aug. 5 the police were dispatched to a local pub where a patron was complaining of having been beaten up. The suspect was not known to the victim. The 35-year-old victim sustained minor injuries. The matter is still under investigation.
The police were called to a noisy party in the 200 block of Lorraine Street on Sunday. One of the homeowners became belligerent towards the police and followed the police to the street where he continued to be belligerent.
After repeated warnings to go back to his residence the 19-year-old male was arrested and lodged in cells. The investigation is ongoing but he may face charges of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.
On Sunday, the police received a complaint of a man passed out in the downtown area. A 21-year-old male was located passed out and was taken into custody and lodged in cells until sober.
A local 65-year-old male resident reported on July 28 that his riding lawn mower, white in color with a Briggs and Stratton engine, was stolen from his yard. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Police were called to a domestic dispute between a 37-year-old female and a 42-year-old male on July 29. While at the residence, the male kicked one of the police officers and came toward the officer with a large sheathed hunting knife. The male dropped the knife and was arrested without further incident. He was transported to Weyburn Police Service and charged under the Criminal Code with assault causing bodily harm of the woman, and with assault of a police officer. The suspect will appear in court in August.
Police attended to the exhibition grounds after receiving a call about an erratic driver on July 31. A 17-year-old female was found to be the driver and charged under the Traffic Safety Act with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a valid class of licence, driving in a manner likely to distract, startle or interfere with other drivers and driving without due care and attention.
Police received multiple calls about a vehicle with no plates driving with excessive speed on 18th Street on Aug. 3. The vehicle was located and a 23-year-old male was charged with driving while disqualified/prohibited, operating an unregistered vehicle and driving in a manner likely to distract, startle or interfere with other drivers.
Police received a report on Aug. 3 that a 24 year old male was punched in the face by a 31 year old male. The investigation resulted in the 31-year-old male being charged under the Criminal Code with assault causing bodily harm. In addition, this male had an outstanding warrant which was executed.
