Police investigates mischief, thefts, accidents, break-ins

During the week of Apr. 2-8, the city police were successful in concluding a case from March 17 where some vehicles were damaged. An 18-year-old male and a 19-year-old male have been arrested and charged.



During the week of Apr. 2-8, the city police were successful in concluding a case from March 17 where some vehicles were damaged. An 18-year-old male and a 19-year-old male have been arrested and charged. The investigation is still ongoing with additional arrests and charges being anticipated.

The Weyburn Police Service are investigating a complaint on Apr. 2 of mischief to a vehicle parked in the 900 block of First Ave. NW, where it appears the windshield was shot with either a pellet or .22 cal rifle.

The Weyburn PS responded to traffic collision involving a vehicle and a six-year-old male on Apr. 2. Investigation revealed that the the youth rode out from among parked vehicles. The driver of the vehicle was unable to stop, resulting in a collision with the youth. The youth was transported to local hosptial where he was treated and released. The driver of the vehicle was charged with operating an unregistered vehicle.

As a result of a complaint of a drunk driver leaving a local business on Apr. 2, the vehicle was subsequently located north of Weyburn by an off-duty Weyburn Police Service member. The vehicle had run off the road and into the ditch twice prior to being stopped by police. A 35-year-old male from Edenwold, Sask., has been charged with impaired driving and driving over .08.
The city police are investigating a complaint on Apr. 4 of mischief to a local residence.

As a result of a traffic stop for a vehicle not displaying a licence plate on Apr. 5, it was discovered that the plate had been stolen from the vehicle.

The city police dealt with two unrelated complaints of distraught individuals wanting to harm themselves on Saturday. In the first instance a 47-year-old female had called the Health Line indicating that she wished to harm herself. Police and EMS attended and the female was transported to the local hospital without further incident. In the second case a 63-year-old male had called the Health Line. Police were able to determine that the male was not in any immediate danger and the incident was resolved without further involvement.

The police are investigating a complaint of a 37-year-old male having been assaulted outside a local pub on Sunday. This matter is still under investigation.

During the week the Weyburn Police Service dealt with a total of 123 calls for service. Of these 17, were for false alarms, six liquor tickets were issued and four motor vehicle collisions were attended.
The unusual winter and warm spring have made for some interesting potholes on city streets. As you travel about police urge motorists to slow down and exercise more caution than normal so that if you have to take evasive action to avoid a road hazard you will not endanger other users of the streets.

A computer scam was reported to police on Mar. 28, where the person was told that his computer could be fixed remotely. The victim provided his credit card information and found it to be used for unauthorized purchases; the matter is being investigated.

An intoxicated male was reported in the area of the Dog Park on Mar. 28; the male was located and removed without incident.

A local bank had what they believed to be counterfeit bills on Thursday, but the bills were examined and found to be real. The bills were of an older series and returned to the bank to process. Later that day a patron at the bank was sent to police to have bills that she had examined, these bills were also determined to be real.

Complaints were received of two people riding mini-bikes on Laing Crescent on Thursday. Police located those responsible and informed them of the Bylaw that does not allow off-road vehicles within city limits.

Police attended a report of a stolen Carson truck from the Weyburn Trailer Court on Thursday; the truck was located a short time later. However, the driver had fled the scene. The matter is still under investigation.

A traffic stop was made on a vehicle on Thursday, which resulted in the driver being given a 24-hr. suspension.

Police observed an intoxicated male intentionally knock over a mailbox on Friday; the male was arrested for being drunk in public and lodged in cells till sober.

The School Division called police reporting someone had stolen batteries from the bus barn on Railway Avenue on Friday. Investigation is continuing.

Staff from a local business called to report an intoxicated male in their store on Friday and would not leave. When police arrived the male had left, but was found a short distance away.

Police were called to Barber Crescent on Friday, as the caller believed that someone had tried to break into her vehicle. Police attended and the investigation continues.

A motorist reported that someone had put a trailer in the middle of the street at Ash Dr. and Douglas Road on Saturday. The motorist moved the trailer to the side of the street. The area was patrolled, but those responsible were not found.

Police were asked to attend a residence while property was removed to keep the peace on Saturday. Police were present and the exchange happened without issue.

Assistance was requested by a daughter to help locate her father on Saturday; while police were looking for the man, it was found that he had left to work with someone else.

A complaint was received of some youths shooting BB guns on Saturday; the youths were located and spoken to. The parent was told that a city bylaw does not allow the BB guns to used within city limits.

Police were called to Haig School on Saturday, as a passerby saw some kids on the roof. Two youths were located and brought to the Weyburn Police Service, their parents were called to pick them up and warned of their behavior.

Police attended a local youth hang out spot on Saturday to help staff remove two youths who were not allowed on the property. The two were spoken to by police and sent on their way.

An intoxicated male walked into the Weyburn Police Service on Saturday drinking a beer; the male was arrested for being drunk in public and was lodged in cells for the night.

Mischief to a vehicle was reported on Saturday. The owner came out of his house to find his vehicle wrapped in saran wrap. The complainant was able to get a plate number off of the vehicle that had those responsible inside. The vehicle was located by police and occupants could be charged under the Highway Traffic Act for tampering with a motor vehicle or if major damage is done, under the Criminal Code for Mischief.

A call came in on Sunday of two men fighting in the downtown area. Police arrived and spoke with those involved, it was found that the two were friends and just messing around. The two had been drinking and were sent on their way.

Police were called to Laing Crescent on Sunday, as the caller said that two people were riding quads on the street. The quads were gone when police arrived.

Police came across a fight outside a local pub on Sunday; the fight was broken up and neither side wished to pursue charges. A short time later police were called to an altercation between two females on Eighth Street; the two intoxicated females were found and split up. Neither party wanted anything done by police, one female was removed and taken home by another friend.

Mischief to a school was reported to police by two people walking by. They observed kids spray paint on the school and then leave in a four-door silver car. Patrol attended and found some wording spray painted; the matter is still under investigation.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance on Water Street; police were able to calm the couple without anything further taking place.

Weyburn City Police also dealt with three reported hit-and-run accidents, four noisy property complaints and eight false alarms.

With the nicer weather and the change of seasons the complaints of all terrain vehicles within city limits and skateboarders downtown increase. ATVer's are reminded that they are not allowed to operate within city limits. Skateboarders are not allowed between Government Road and Fourth Street and Railway Avenue and Coteau Avenue. These are city bylaws and can result in fines and/or seizure of ATV or skateboards.
