Police investigates mischief, thefts, accidents, break-ins

During the week of Mar. 26 to Apr. 1, the Weyburn Police Service responded to 91 various calls for service, including incidents of mischief, thefts and accidents.

Police received a call from Haig School on Mar. 26 that a window appeared to have been shot with a pellet gun. Employees of the school believe that the damage occurred on the weekend, the investigation is ongoing.

Two separate reports were taken on Mar. 26 for hit-and-run accidents that happened within the city. If involved in an accident, it is to be reported to the nearest police as soon as possible, failing to do so can result in charges under the Highway Traffic Act. Also, if damage is done to property due to an accident the owner of that property is to be notified, charges can result if this is not done.

The Weyburn Police Service assisted the Estevan Police Service on Mar. 26 in an accident that resulted in damage done to a CP Rail crossing arm; information was taken and forwarded to Estevan.

A male attended the office on Sunday to report that his car had been stolen, used to run into his neighbours' fence and then returned to his driveway. Through investigation it was found that the male was not being truthful with police. The male was charged with failing to notify the owner of property of damage. The male could have also been charged with mischief under the Criminal Code for providing false information to police.

A hit and run was reported in the Tim Horton's parking lot on Sunday. The caller reported that a white Ford had backed into a parked vehicle and then left. The caller was unable to provide a plate number, minor scratches were found on the front bumper of the parked car.

A complaint was made of an erratic driver coming into Weyburn on Highway 39 toward Government Road on Mar. 26; the driver was located and warned of his driving actions. The driver was upset because someone had placed a handicap parking sign on his car.

A complaint came to the police from a home owner in the 1400 block of Coteau Ave. on Mar. 27 where three of her vehicles were rummaged through, with some items being taken. This matter is still an open investigation.

Police were called to a break-and-enter on Ninth Street on Saturday and the homeowner believed the person was still in the house. Police attended and found the basement window smashed, but no one inside.

Police were called on Mar. 27 by school staff to assist in locating a young female with medical history; the youth was located a short time later and taken back to school.

A resident on 10th Street called on Mar. 27 to report that sometime during the night her car was gone through. An Apple iPod touch was taken from the vehicle.

Ranch Ehrlo staff contacted Weyburn City Police asking for assistance in locating two youths that had run away from their facility on Mar. 27 and they were believed to be in Weyburn.

Police were able to locate the two youth, who were held and turned over to Ranch Ehrlo staff.
A complaint was received from a home owner that someone had entered his home on Mar. 27 and stole various food items.
