Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of August 5 to 12:
During the reporting period, the Weyburn Police Service received 165 calls for service.
*On August 12, police began investigating the theft of a 2003 Red Pontiac Grand Am with Saskatchewan license plate 995DWG. The vehicle was reported stolen from Foster Street and has not yet been recovered.
*Police apprehended a 16-year-old Weyburn female for violating her probation as well as her release conditions from other pending criminal charges. She was held in custody pending a court appearance.
*On August 11, police received a report from a vehicle owner who had been sitting in his van on Mergens Street when another person smashed out the van window. Police are looking to speak to two male youths who were seen in the area, however no description was available.
*Police responded to a 9-1-1 call requesting officers attend to a domestic disturbance. A 22-year-old female was removed from the residence and lodged in cells.
*A 52-year-old male was asked to leave a local pub because he was intoxicated, so he went to another pub, where he started to cause problems. He then went outside and continued to cause problems and at one point grabbed another patron in an attempt to hit him. The patron knocked the aggressor to the ground in self-defense. Police attended and diffused the situation.
*Officers patrolled the baseball diamonds during a tournament. Although a beer gardens was in place, police charged four individuals who were walking around a public place with open alcohol.
*The public is reminded that unless a sporting activity has a properly licenced beer gardens, any consumption of alcohol in a public place is prohibited and the person is subject to a minimum $250 fine.
*Weyburn police officers joined with the Acquired Brain Injury Association to hold a Scooter Rally at City Centre Mall. Participants in the rally rode scooters through an obstacle course. They were also informed about the rules and regulations regarding scooters, with an emphasis on safety.
*On August 10, police received a call from a salvage dealer about a suspicious male trying to sell copper wire. When officers attended, the male fled the area without getting paid for the metal. An investigation into recent thefts of copper wire is ongoing.
*Police received a report that an 18-year-old local male who was on a court-ordered curfew wasn't home. The male has been charged with a breach of court conditions.
*On August 9, a local bank manager reported a fraudulent cheque that had been deposited by a 44-year-old local female. The suspect had obtained an amount of cash. The matter is still under investigation.
*Police received a complaint about damage done to a vehicle in the northwest end of the city. The damage occurred sometime between the first and eighth of August. The complainant told police that someone used a wrench to damage his truck and then left the wrench in the back of his truck. There are no suspects at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
*On August 8, police were called by a homeowner on Duke Street who had witnessed three youths walk by and damage one of the underground spinkler heads. The homeowner was able to catch one of the youths prior to police arrival. Police spoke to the youth's parents and discussed reparations.
*On August 7, police were called via 9-1-1 to a vehicle on fire on the 500 block of Fifth Street. Police arrived to find the engine compartment on fire. Fire crews attended to put out the fire, which was caused when the owner was trying to boost his vehicle. This matter is not considered suspicious.
*A woman and her two toddlers were on a bike path on the east side of the city. A male rode past on his cycle and exposed himself. Police located the suspect. A 27-year-old male from Weyburn has been charged with committing an indecent act and will be making a court appearance later this month.
*Police received a complaint from the 700 block of 18th Street that a dog had attacked another dog. The investigation revealed that about six weeks prior the same dog had attacked another dog, resulting in significant injuries to the dog, requiring medical attention. The dog and owner were located. A 61-year-male resident of Weyburn has been charged with two offences under the City dog bylaw and will be making a court appearance in September.
*Dog owners are reminded that dogs must be on a leash at all times except when at the 'off-leash' park. Pet owners will be held accountable for the actions of their pets.
*On August 6, police received a complaint that a 12-year-old female was breaching the conditions of a court undertaking. The investigation determined that the youth was not home during her curfew hours and she has been charged.
*On August 5, police received a complaint about kids drinking alcohol in one of the parks. A youth was charged with consuming alcohol in public, which carries a fine of $250.
