Police respond to reports of threats and theft

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of August 22 to 28: During the past week police members attended 95 calls for service. Many were alcohol related, there were assault and firearm related complaints attended.

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of August 22 to 28:

During the past week police members attended 95 calls for service. Many were alcohol related, there were assault and firearm related complaints attended. Police members also attended several alarm calls this past week, along with receiving several erratic driving complaints.

* On August 28, police were called to a domestic dispute in the city. The matter was resolved without further incident.

* On August 27, the Weyburn Police Service attended to a residence to speak with a male subject regarding erratic and threatening behaviour. As an officer was speaking to the subject, he brandished what appeared to be a high powered rifle. The subject had earlier intimated that he wished to die by 'suicide by police'. The officer quickly withdrew from the situation. The residence and perimeter were secured with the assistance of the Weyburn, Milestone, Fillmore, Avonlea and Regina RCMP. The Regina RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) was activated. Prior to ERT arriving, the subject called the Weyburn Police and after speaking with a Weyburn Police crisis negotiator agreed to turn himself in. He was arrested without further incident. A 29 year-old local male is currently in custody facing a charge of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be laid. Due to the semi-isolated location of the residence no neighbouring houses or people were in immediate danger.

* Also on August 27, police were called to investigate a break and enter to a local residence. Cash and jewellery were taken. The matter is under investigation.

* Police were called to a complaint of assault. The matter is under investigation.

* Police were called to a disturbance at a local bar. One male was arrested and lodged in cells until sober.

* On August 26, police were called to assist in locating a depressed individual.

* Police were called to investigate a theft from a vehicle. A sub box and amp were stolen. The matter is under investigation.

* Police were called to investigate an assault. A local Weyburn youth was later located and charged. No injuries were reported.

* On August 25, police were called to investigate a complaint of telephone harassment. The matter was resolved.

* On August 24, police were called to a vehicle fire at a local business. The matter is under investigation.

* On August 23, police were called to investigate the theft and fraudulent use of a bank card. The matter is under investigation.

* Police were called to investigate a Nigerian Fraud scam. Once again, residents are reminded not to send money to these types of requests.

* Police were called to investigate a complaint of damage to a local business. A Weyburn male was later arrested and charged.

* On August 22, police were called to investigate a complaint of threats. The matter was resolved without incident.

* Police were called to investigate a break and enter to a storage facility. The matter is under investigation.

* Police were called to investigate a minor hit and run accident. The matter is under investigation.

* Police were called to investigate a complaint of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle was later located. The matter is under investigation.
