Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of January 28 to February 3:
During the reporting period, police received 98 calls for service, as well as a number of complaints about residents pushing snow onto the streets with their quads. Unlicensed vehicles cannot be driven within city limits. In fact, there is a bylaw stating that residents cannot push snow onto the street.
*On February 3, a call was received about an intoxicated man at a local gas station. Police removed the man and lodged him in cells until he was sober.
*Police responded to a fight at a local bar when a complaint was made of a man causing a disturbance. He was asked to leave the area and he did.
*Police were called about a man driving without a valid driver's license. The vehicle was located and the man was issued a ticket for driving without a license.
*On February 2, during a routine traffic stop, police noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Approximately 117 grams of marijuana was found in the vehicle, resulting in two adult males being arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking.
*Police responded to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that the individuals, a recently-separated couple, were having a dispute over property. They were advised to pursue the matters through Civil Court.
*Two males, who were drinking and were sending increasingly disturbing text messages to each other, were told to cease communication and to avoid any contact.
*The driver of a vehicle travelling too fast for road conditions collided with a parked vehicle, damaging the front end of her vehicle. The woman was transported to the hospital by EMS with un-determined injuries. The parked vehicle sustained damage to the bumper. The driver was charged for driving at a speed greater than is reasonable and safe.
*On February 1, police received a complaint from a resident about snow machines riding across his yard. He was advised to call when it happens and that police would deal with the issue. Residents are reminded that you cannot ride snow machines within city limits except for limited designated areas.
*An elderly woman was reported missing from a local care home. After checking numerous coffee shops and restaurants, the police were going to call out the Weyburn Fire Department to assist in the search. However, the missing person returned to the home unharmed.
*Police responded to a domestic disturbance wherein a man and woman had assaulted each other. The man left the residence to stay at a hotel for the night and neither person wanted to pursue charges.
*On January 31, while doing a walk-through at a local bar, an employee requested that police remove a patron for causing a disturbance. A 29-year-old male was asked to leave, which he did willingly.
*On January 30, numerous acts of vandalism were reported from an apartment/condo complex. The side mirrors were either broken off or damaged on approximately 13 vehicles. Police gathered evidence from the scene of the damage and the matters are under investigation.
*The former foster child of an elderly couple turned up on their door step and she was intoxicated. Police arrested her for being drunk in public and lodged her in cells. She was found to have a warrant of arrest from Regina. She was released the following morning and boarded a bus to Regina.
*Police received a complaint of a man staggering down an east area street. The intoxicated man was lodged in police cells until he was sober and was released.
*On January 29, an employee from a local hotel called in a complaint of mischief. Officers attended and found that a man had broken the railing off of a stairwell. A picture of the man was given to the police. All of the local bars were checked and the suspect was not found. Police are investigating the incident.
*During some local bar checks, police had spoken to a man who appeared to be intoxicated. He was seen driving later that night, so he was arrested for impaired driving and was taken to the Weyburn Police Service. He was subsequently charged for impaired driving and driving while over .08.
*Officers attended a local Group Home. One of the clients had punched another. The man was spoken to about his actions and he was told about the consequences. No charges were laid in the assault.
*On January 28, a semi was travelling east on First Avenue north when it caught and pulled down a power line. The driver felt a strange sensation and pulled over. The road was blocked off while Sask Power repaired the line. An accident report was done and no charges were laid in the accident.
*Police received a call about a man drinking in the bathroom at a local business. The man was located and he did have alcohol. He was charged with having an alcoholic beverage in a public place, which carries a fine of $250.
*Police responded to an accident on highway #39 across from Riverside Park. A semi tractor/trailer unit was passing a grain hauling truck in the right side lane when it was forced to move over to the ditch as the road narrowed. The trailer rolled onto its side in the ditch. No charges were laid in the accident.
